Visually the game looks stunning but its art style is quite monotone compared with similar title No Man’s Sky, which also boasts an enormous sandbox universe to explore though with far more colours to look at. Starfield looks to be playable in both first and third-person like Fallout 4 and seems to be a shooter, though playstyles will probably depend on what build the player decides to use. Storywise, it looks like the player will be embarking on a galaxy-spanning journey to find ancient artifacts of unknown origins whilst defending themselves from the wiles of enemy factions and monstrous aliens. The player can land their spacecraft anywhere on any of the planets and explore from there, where encounters with alien creatures, space pirates, missions, characters, and other sci-fi tropes await. Immediately, Starfield’s visuals are stunning if not a bit conservative.Īccording to Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda and equally beloved and reviled icon of the modern gaming industry, Starfield will allow the player to visit any of the game’s 1000 planets in a virtual galaxy designed to completely immerse the player. The trailer begins with the player arriving on the moon of Kreet while composer Inon Zur’s suite crescendos as the spaceship lands. The 15-minute clip showcased during the Xbox and Bethesda event is a mix between curated apparent gameplay and an accompanying explanation. In Starfield the player creates a character, fully customizable with unique skills and traits, and explores an entirely open galaxy of around 1000 planets aboard a fully customizable spaceship. Recently, co-op mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 have also begun to pop up, so not all hope is lost.In Starfield, Bethesda has taken what they have learned from all their previous titles, like Skyrim and the modern Fallout games, to build the company’s most ambitious game yet. A mod of that size would likely be released further down the line but the possibility remains. This means that players could download a mod in the future that offers multiplayer functionality to Starfield. However, the game will be able to be modded. Judging by all of this, it would be highly surprising if Starfield featured any sort of multiplayer or co-op modes. Bethesda has said Starfield is more along the lines of a Skyrim or Fallout 4. Of course, co-op was the focal point of the game, as there were no NPCs on the map when the game launched. Fallout 76, which was heavily criticized upon its release, is their only game with co-op features. We can also go by Bethesda’s previous releases in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout universes. If the developers were planning on co-op gameplay, this statement would have likely been revised. Todd Howard has said time and time again that Starfield is a single-player experience. However, it doesn’t seem likely that the game will launch with either of these features. Multiplayer and co-op in StarfieldĪs of the time of writing, Bethesda Game Studios has not explicitly said anything regarding multiplayer or co-op. However, that was the developers’ most recent release, which has fans wondering if those cooperative features will be coming to Starfield or not. Fallout 76 is one of the only Bethesda Games Studios’ titles to actually feature multiplayer and co-op gameplay. Multiplayer is a feature that rarely arrives for the launch of a Bethesda title. However, a question about Starfield is being asked by fans that has not truly been answered by Bethesda: will it have multiplayer and/or co-op? From 1,000 explorable planets to character creation to skill trees, fans now have a much better idea of what Starfield is than they did at the beginning of this year. Todd Howard and the team at Bethesda Game Studios revealed a ton of new information about Starfield through this gameplay showcase. Starfield is all the buzz in the gaming community as of late thanks to the recent gameplay reveal shown off at the Xbox/Bethesda Games Showcase.
